Big Day Turns into Big Success
The generous people of Christchurch came out in force on Monday to support the Canterbury Down Syndrome Association and the Upp club. The long-awaited Charity Event raised a staggering $36,000, which according to professional fundraisers, is unheard of in the current economic climate, especially for a first-up attempt.
The day could not have run smoother or more exciting, with even the weather gods smiling on our big day. Special guest, World Cup winning All Black captain David Kirk even remarked that he never thought he'd get sunburned in Christchurch in September. Thanks to Noel Chambers from Chambers PR, Jim Lysaght from the Upp Club and the help of a few Upp Club mothers on the BBQ, the players had a terrific day in perfect conditions on the beautiful Shirley course.
David Kirk had generously agreed to come across from Sydney to speak at the dinner, but also agreed to come to the golf to hit a few balls from a par-3 with passing foursomes. In the Ambrose format everyone in the team hits and teams continue where the best ball lands.
